Hi, I’m Paulina Malaga: registered dietitian, postpartum exercise specialist, pelvic floor trainer.
I help expat moms rebuild their bodies, confidence and energy.
I used to teach all sort of Postnatal fitness classes and I’ve been training women for over 10 years…
but most importantly I am a mom of two living abroad just like you.
BEFORE GIVING BIRTH I WAS REALLY FIT.
I used to do everything at my own time: training, grocery, cooking, shopping and, of course, seeing my friends for a drink or two. But when I got pregnant things changed…
My worries took over and I nearly stopped all my training for the whole first trimester.
I was afraid of eating most foods I used to like…and the rest I just couldn’t stomach.
If you’ve been pregnant you know what I’m talking about.
Luckily, at that point, I was already a Postnatal specialized PT and I had helped dozens of busy moms lose weight and get back to their pregnancy body.
I even used to run fitness classes for moms and I told myself that I would never let my pregnancy get me out of my exercise routine and healthy eating.
I thought I’d build a strong pelvic floor and have an easy delivery. I thought I had everything under control…but real life turned out to be quite different….
My worries took over me…
…and I nearly stopped all my training for the whole first trimester.
I was living on easy, baby-friendly food — think puréed veggies, rice cakes, and baby cheese (definitely not my old chicken-and-broccoli days!).
Things started to shift in my third trimester when I got certified in Pre-natal Training and spent countless hours researching the safest ways to move during pregnancy.
I began incorporating gentle exercises in my living room using just a pair of dumbbells, and I made long walks a daily ritual.
Still, I gained quite a bit of weight — as you can clearly see in this photo (kindly “enhanced” by my husband’s cooking 😅).
Then the day of the DELIVERY came…
and it was a nightmare
Because of COVID-19, I had to go through labor alone — in a quiet, empty hospital room. And likely due to a rushed decision to induce me.
I ended up needing an emergency C-section.
I was scared, in pain, and completely alone… but I got through it. And I gave birth to my angel, Amelia. I couldn’t have been happier. But a few weeks later, I finally worked up the courage to really look at myself in the mirror.
Let’s just say… it wasn’t a pretty picture.
I had a soft, flabby tummy that hurt, and an ugly long scar. The thought of not being able to move freely — or ever feeling strong in my body again — terrified me.
So I went back to what I knew. I leaned on everything I had learned in 3 years of coaching moms and hundreds of hours of study… and I began to rebuild.
